Clashes between UP police and villagers result in the death of a woman

Dehradun. On Wednesday evening, the wife of a block chief was killed in a clash between local residents and Uttar Pradesh Police personnel near Kashipur in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district. The clash injured five people, including two Uttar Pradesh Police officers, according to officials.
According to an official, the clash occurred when an Uttar Pradesh Police team from Thakurdwar arrived in Bharatpur village to search the home of Jaspur block chief Gurtaj Bhullar for mining mafia. The police team had received information that the mining mafia Jafar was hiding out in the house of block chief Bhullar, according to the official. The police had offered him a reward of Rs 50,000.
According to the official, the police team arrived at Bhullar’s house dressed as ordinary citizens, which sparked a fight. He claimed that both sides opened fire, killing Bhullar’s wife Gurpreet as she returned home from work. Manjunath TC, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Udham Singh Nagar, stated that the Uttar Pradesh Police team had not informed the Uttarakhand Police of the action in advance.
The superintendent stated that after the deceased’s family filed a complaint, the Uttarakhand Police registered a case against 10-12 Uttar Pradesh Police personnel under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
